Gypsy Rose Lee

Gypsy transparent _edited.png

As part of a collaboration with the Victoria and Albert Museum and their Re-Imagining Musicals exhibition, this costume was designed and made for a live performance. The costume was an adaptation of the character Gypsy Rose Lee from Sondheim’s Gypsy and taking inspiration from The Court Jester (1955) and Monty Python and The Holy Grail (1975) she was developed with a mock medieval twist on the Vaudeville show. Sustainable practises, including sourcing dead stock fabric and traditional patchwork, were used in the creation of the expansive cloak. With two sizes of diamonds patchwork of over 4 different fabrics, the cloak took over a month to complete. It has since been used in editorial and commercial shoots at the discretion of the designer.

This was made in collaboration with dance performer Kaja Busco to ensure the best possible and practical fit for performance. Said performance was hosted at the V&A in 2023
